THE DIRTY WAR OF THE STATE AND CAPITAL AGAINST ANARCHISTS CONTINUES

*This is a communiqué found in the streets of europe, translated from spanish*

Lately, we have been seeing a new outbreak of repression and criminalisation from Power. This repression that is often manifested in the form of a dirty war, is directed towards those that participate actively in social conflicts, as well as towards groups and individuals that decide to move to action and strike the structures of Power. This repression and criminalisation is not precisely new, for the last fifteen years there have been new waves of repressive operations against compañerxs and anarchist groups. As well as more or less intense (depending on the context) campaigns of sensationalism and smears from the Mass Media of the Masses (M.M.M.), that reduces all anarchist practice to the exercise of “violence” and “terrorism”, and creating phantoms of national and international networks of “anarco-terrorists” that they say, copy “jihadist” structures.

It is necessary to define what is understood by the term “terrorism”. For anarchists, terrorism (meaning the domination of others by means of terror) is evictions, wage slavery and police repression. Terrorism is to silence, with years in jail, all who protest and act in self defence and to prosecute those with ideals of freedom. Terrorism is the destruction of the environment and the always growing marginalisation and impoverishment of more social sectors. It is a system that lies, exploits and deceives millions of people; a system that always seeks to benefit the elites and high social classes. For those whom govern and those whom encourage them, terrorism is any resistance against this barbarity, whatever the methods.

Amongst the tactics of a dirty war that The State and Capital employs to repress anarchists and other rebels, the following stand out:

MEDIA SENSATIONALISM

The M.M.M. are a fundamental part of the repression, generating fear, they sway public opinion to justify special measures (anti-terrorist laws, special tribunals, national courts) that are used against those whom critique or dare to challenge the system with words and actions. They sentence without possibility of defence those being prosecuted politically – the motivations of the rebels are silenced, and when they can not censor them, the motivations are distorted presenting them as “crazy”, “brainwashed” or “fanatics”.

ISOLATION

“Divide et Impera” – the State attempts to divide the popular movement through the isolation of the rebel nuclei, branding them, simultaneously with the police, as “violent”, “radicals” or “anarchoinsurrectionist”. Their objective is to divide us from the struggle, generating distrust towards anarchists and in this way stop our ideas of radical change (from the root) permeating social conflicts. Those from the left that collaborate with these strategies of isolation are active accomplices of the dirty war of the State.

SOCIAL CONTROL

New technologies have invaded our bodies and our minds isolating us from the real world. These are used to control our opinions and actions so that they do not challenge the “status quo”. This control is not only exercised against anarchists and rebels, but is used against the whole social body through the mass interception and retention of metadata, phone calls, communications on the internet, the ubiquity of video surveillance (including the use of drones) and the use of sophisticated techniques to identify potentially “dangerous” individuals such as facial recognition software and DNA databases and so on.

DENOUNCING

The State attempts to blackmail prisoners and the fighters of this social war with false accusations, trying to get some to inform on the others in exchange for leniency or some other advantage. In this way, it engenders distrust amongst comrades. On many occasions, money is also offered in exchange for giving interesting information to the police.

REPENTANCE

The State tries to make any anarchists that have realised any act against the system repent, in exchange of a judicial benefit, for example, lighter sentences, and thus weakening the movement as its ideas do not seem sufficiently strong.

TORTURE

The democratic State continues practising and tolerating torture in its police stations, jails, detention centres and in the streets. Physical and psychological torture seek to break the rebels, to make them renounce their ideas and their desire for freedom.

It is not about nurturing “victimhood”. It’s about identifying the mechanisms that oppressors use to exterminate resistance. The knowledge of these and other dirty war tactics are indispensable to continue individual and collective revolt.
